Just read Alex's blog post about Android... Is this a joke? I'm really not sure, there are serious comments that point out some of the giant flaws in the various statements, and they seem to be answered seriously, but... I feel like I'm missing a joke :(
I suppose Android is as good a bandwagon as the next...

Alex Graveley says:

Eek.  What kinda giant flaws?  The post is a bit premature, given no apps and no phones, but I don't see what could be construed as flaws necessarily.

Frej Soya says:

Feels like a US commentator on a news channel...
but I have no clue either so :)

Chris Lord says:

@Alex: The statement "All of these are either restrictively closed platforms, use unfriendly low-level languages, don’t scale to support 3D or iPhone-quality animations, don’t have useful widget reuse, don’t allow replacing core components, etc etc." is just untrue (as elaborated on by other people's comments on your blog), and you haven't at all considered what the downsides of Android might be.

For example, what kind of hardware will be needed to run a Java-based GL interface? What language support will there be other than Java? How open is it, really? It's certainly not on the same level as OpenMoko in this respect.

Then there's the case that Android just isn't really comparable to a lot of the things in that list.

Also, the whole 'these projects are now obsolete' is pretty much just a big 'Fuck you' to anyone working on anything similar to Android. So, y'know, thanks for that!

Any comments?
